More on partnership

Dear Firearm Owner

Gun Owners of South Africa (GOSA) Membership

Thank you for expressing an interest in GOSA by having completed the forms available. Please note how we intend reaching our goals.

What are GOSA’s core objectives?

  1. To force the repeal of the Firearms Control Act (FCA).
  2. To ensure the right to keep and bear arms.
  3. To promote and establish a Victim’s Charter.
  4. To educate the broader public to the importance of the right to choose to keep and bear arms.

How will GOSA achieve these goals?

Through timeously identifying threats and opposition to each of the core goals. GOSA will make use of any legal means to achieve its ambitions. This usually entails disseminating information to the broader public and pro-firearm allies, whilst at the same time planning and executing deliberate strategies to counter opposition initiatives.

GOSA’s strategies up to now has been to rally public support by means of dissemination and exposing key pieces of information e.g. the constitutionality of the FCA, abuse of power etc., specifically in regard to the new law. This is however no more than other organisations have been doing up to now. (We have seen the question asked at the media launch of GOSA How is GOSA different from all the other pro-firearms groupings? Is this not perhaps an indication that people possibly want to see a far more aggressive posture?)

GOSA has had some success in playing the media game. A deliberate strategy, that of brinkmanship, has probably been instrumental in forcing government to talk with what it perceives to be more moderate pro-firearm groupings. The point is that nothing is being achieved with these meetings, the Minister only talks about certain non-critical issues, and refuses to discuss the heart of the matter, repealing the FCA. In the wake of the meeting, additional regulations and amendments to "further tighten up the Act" are being introduced.

We have to show government we are serious. We believe you encouraging your friends to partner with GOSA can achieve this.

GOSA’s structure must remain as originally proposed, that of the classic cell structure. Through this structure a member will be able to exercise his/her right to influence the affairs of the organisation.

Queries regarding ownership, licencing or sports activities may be posted and answered on our website forum.
