A political solution

“What is needed is a mass mobilization campaign against the culture of firearm ownership and the resultant increase in interpersonal violence.”  Nothing could be further from the truth and a perfect example of political misdirection.  More than R2bn of the thinly stretched SAPS budget will be used in just implementing the Firearms Control Act.  A frivolous paper chase of hugely expensive and resource gobbling ideological hurdles with the sole purpose of disarming law-abiding citizens.  No government on this earth has succeeded in removing firearms from criminals and the criminally intent.  The only citizens who can be disarmed are those who have no inclination to crime and obey the law.  The Firearms Control Act is a political tool that serves no other purpose than to give government the teeth and means to disarm law-abiding citizens.

Such ideological and false utterances of political mismanagement and direction to distractions from the crime-fighting role of the police are clear evidence of what is wrong.  How can the public ever trust such structures that claim to have their best interest at heart yet promote failed government policy that can only lead to more death and misery at the hands of criminals.

The assumption that the public are ignorant and that such blatant untruths can be used is a breech of public trust.  That the police are misdirected into chasing guns instead of arresting criminals directly places into danger the lives of citizens.  Whilst it is commonplace for politicians to sacrifice the lives of citizens to achieve political agendas it is unforgivable for the police to do so.

The very fact that the police must lie each and every time they are asked if the Act is being implemented or can be implemented is an indication of serious problems that are being hidden from the public and government.  That excuses that prove the inability to implement are produced as validity of the shambles that that exists.   News flash for the SAPS the Act is complex and requires many background checks.  The SAPS are aware of each and every one as they insisted upon there inclusion and therefore know what manpower is required to complete this task.  How on earth can this background check be an excuse for the lack of service and unacceptable delays in processing applications?
